So They Are to March

The men at Monterey — 1100 of them — will entrain on two sections of fourteen cars each at 7.30 A.M. arriving here about noon, and after the parade leaving again for Monterey at 7 P. M.
More and more historic American flags are being brought forth to float in the preparedness parade. The first American flag to wave over the city of Manila, unfurled on August 13, 1898, is to be borne by a guard of honor of the Nationals. It was offered for the occasion by Major C. L. Tilden.

A battle flag carried in the Mexican war by General Winfield Scott’s color-bearers, and now in the possession of an employee of the Southern Pacific Company, is to appear in the preparedness parade with one of the companies of the Southern Pacific division.

[…] Mrs. Phoebe A. Hearst visited the headquarters of the parade committee yesterday to announce that she will lead the Woman’s Board […] in the parade. Mrs. Hearst said she was going to march all the way, and declared that she wanted no automobile trailing her like an ambulance.
