MARCH & RALLY Against the war in Vietnam. October 31 Antiwar Coalition, San Francisco, California

Ephemera

MARCH & RALLY Against the war in Vietnam; California social, protest, and counterculture movement ephemera collection, SOC MOV EPH; box 1, folder 3; California Historical Society.

This San Francisco march and rally against the Vietnam War reflected growing antiwar sentiment in the United States. Local, grassroots organizations like this one formed to pressure the government to end the war in Vietnam. Marches and rallies began in 1964 and continued every year with the escalation of tensions in Vietnam. These actions helped turn public sentiment against the war. Examine the flyer carefully and consider the following questions: What tactics did the antiwar movement use to gain support for their cause? Who was encouraged to participate? What were the various ways that people were encouraged to participate?
